Changing Majors
We don't want to lose you as a Genetics major, BUT . . . . .
Sometimes students do change majors! If you are considering this, read on.
Preparation for possible change of major
- Log into AccessPlus and run an alternate degree audit for the major you are considering to learn how the courses you’ve taken would fit that curriculum.
- Schedule a visit with an academic advisor in the prospective new major to discuss your program of studies and future opportunities in that field. Take with you a printed copy of the alternate degree audit.
- You may also want to visit with your current faculty advisor to discuss the changes you are considering.
Process to change majors

Within the College of LAS:
- Download the following form: LAS Change of Major
- Fill out the form, indicating your current major and the new major you will join.
- Meet with Lois Girton in the Biology/Genetics Student Services Office, 103 Bessey Hall. Dr. Girton will provide your departmental advising file.
- Bring the form and the advising file to the student services office of your new major. They will take those materials, assign an advisor for the new major, and complete the rest of the process.

Within the College of AGLS:
- Download the following form: File Transmittal Form
- Meet with Lois Girton in 109 Bessey Hall. She will assist you to fill out Step 2 of the form, provide your departmental advising file, and sign the form on behalf of the current major.
- Bring the File Transmittal Form and your advising file to the AGLS Student Services Office, 23 Curtiss Hall. A representative will assist you to fill out Step 3, and sign on behalf of the college.
- Continue on to the student services office of your new major. A representative of the major will take the materials, assign a new advisor, and complete the rest of the process.

Between two different colleges:
- Download the following form: File Transmittal Form
- Meet with Lois Girton in 109 Bessey Hall. She will assist you in filling out Step 2 of the form, provide your advising file, and sign the form on behalf of the current major.
- Bring the File Transmittal Form and your advising file to the student services office of your current college. A representative will assist you to fill out Step 3, sign on behalf of the college, and also provide you with the college advising file.
- Continue on to the student services office of your new college. A representative will keep the college advising file, assist you to fill out step 4, and sign on behalf of the new college.
- Continue on to the student services office of your new major. A representative of the major will take the form and the departmental advising file, assign a new advisor, and complete the rest of the process.

Note for student-athletes:
- An additional signature is required from the Athletics Student Services office in order for a student-athlete to change majors. You may with to visit with an advisor there before beginning the process.
